And of course none of the new places are discount hotels, quite the opposite; they are all multi-million dollar luxury projects that they absolutely must charge big buck for the rooms in order to pay the mortgage. And all this expensive building is being done in the name of increasing capacity and room numbers in the city in order to attract more convention business and stuff like that.
So, how do I find a room in Portland at a reasonable rate, hopefully near down town and not in Beaverton or way on the east side of the river? In fact I don’t want to be on the east side at all. Even though it is relatively close to down town, I don’t like staying in the Rose quarter area. So the trick is: downtown, low price room without crack dealers hanging around the parking garage.
